Job Title: Senior Sybase & Python Developer– Prime Brokerage (Unix Background)
Location: London, Liverpool Street, UK (3 Days/Week Onsite)
Duration: 6 Months+
Rate: 550 GBP/Day Inside IR35
Description
We're looking for a Senior Sybase & Python Developer to join our team in London, UK in a hybrid working mode. In this role, you will be part of the Margin IT team within Global Markets Financing IT, focusing on developing and maintaining systems that process prime brokerage post-trade data for counterparty risk and client margin calculations. The role requires strong expertise in Sybase ASE development, Python for ETL and reporting, and Unix environment scripting. You will collaborate with diverse global teams to gather requirements, design scalable solutions, and ensure robust, secure, and stable deployments.
Responsibilities
- Analyze business requirements, design, and implement data-driven solutions to support margin and risk platforms
- Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts on the Sybase ASE platform
- Implement ETL processes and data processing solutions using Python for data ingestion, transformation, and reporting
- Work extensively in a Unix environment for file operations, permissions management, environment setup, and data analysis
- Perform unit and integration testing, ensuring all changes meet SDLC and security standards
- Troubleshoot and resolve high-priority defects in production systems, delivering timely fixes and hot patches
- Collaborate with global IT teams to ensure end-to-end delivery within agile frameworks
- Apply best practices for clean coding and refactoring while adhering to enterprise standards
- Support job automation using Shell scripting and Autosys scheduling tools

Requirements (Must Have Skills)
- 8+ years of experience in software development with a strong focus on Sybase ASE (T-SQL, stored procedures, optimization)
- Hands-on experience with Unix systems, including file operations, permissions, and shell scripting
- Expertise in developing Python-based ETL, cleansing, ingestion, loading, and reporting solutions
- Skilled in Autosys job scheduling, batch operations, and automation
- Strong understanding of SDLC, particularly in agile software delivery environments
- Ability to break down complex business requirements into implementable technical steps
- Excellent problem-solving ability and commitment to producing high-quality solutions

Nice to Have Skills
- Knowledge of Core Java for cross-platform enhancements
- Experience utilizing AI-driven coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) and automation through custom AI agents

- Exposure to DevOps principles, continuous integration, and automated deployment pipelines
