Department: System Engineering
Location: Southampton, UK
Description
This role is part of AccelerComm's Systems Engineering team and reports to the Principal System Architect. Working closely with algorithm, software, FPGA and ASIC engineers, you will help define communications products and IP, translating system, product and customer requirements into practical architectures across software, FPGA and ASIC technologies. You will remain involved throughout the development lifecycle, from requirements and architectural analysis through to implementation support, verification and customer integration.
This role would suit an experienced systems engineer or architect who enjoys combining communications theory, system architecture and practical implementation, both within engineering development and in real-world customer applications.
Key Responsibilities
A significant aspect of the role involves the continued development of AccelerComm's communications IP across FPGA and ASIC deployment targets. You will evaluate architectural options and implementation trade-offs, ensuring that system requirements can be translated into efficient and scalable implementations. Experience of ASIC development for communications, modem or signal-processing products, with a good understanding of the architectural and implementation considerations involved.
Internally, you will contribute to requirements capture, system decomposition, interface definition, architectural modelling, performance analysis and verification planning. You will work closely with FPGA and ASIC designers to explore hardware architecture, implementation strategy and trade-offs including performance, resource usage and power.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
