SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER – UP TO £85,000 - FARNBOROUGH (HYBRID) – 3 DAYS PER WEEK ON-SITE – ACTIVE SC REQUIRED

MERITUS are recruiting for a Senior Systems Engineer to join a leading organisation working on complex UK Central Government and Defence programmes in Farnborough.

This role would suit an experienced systems engineer with a broad understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle, particularly around requirements, system design, technical delivery, and stakeholder management. Experience within the maritime or Defence sector would be highly beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Apply systems engineering methods across complex projects.
  • Lead and coordinate technical teams, reviewing work and supporting junior engineers.
  • Manage stakeholder, user, and system requirements.
  • Produce and oversee technical documentation, engineering plans, and test outputs.
  • Support system design, integration, operation, and support activities.
  • Work closely with project managers, customers, and senior technical stakeholders.
  • Make sure engineering work meets relevant safety, security, and technical standards.
  • Identify technical risks and issues and make sure these are dealt with appropriately.
  • Provide technical updates and support project delivery.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Active SC Clearance.
  • Degree-level engineering qualification or equivalent.
  • CEng or equivalent.
  • 7–10+ years' experience in systems engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Good understanding of systems engineering processes and the system lifecycle.
  • Experience in requirements engineering and system design.
  • Experience leading or reviewing the work of other engineers.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of engineering and project management within complex environments.

Desirable:

  • Maritime, naval, or Defence experience.
  • Previous UK Central Government experience.
  • Experience working in secure, regulated, or safety-critical environments.
  • Knowledge of systems modelling, analysis, or systems acquisition.
