Job Title: Senior System Engineer (CloudGate) - United Kingdom
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior System Engineer (CloudGate) based in United Kingdom.
This role offers the opportunity to work on advanced cloud networking solutions powering the next generation of AI infrastructure. As a Senior System Engineer, you will contribute to the development and optimization of high-performance network services within a large-scale cloud environment. You will design reliable systems, improve service scalability, and solve complex infrastructure challenges involving connectivity, traffic management, and distributed architectures. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will help build technologies that support demanding AI workloads and enterprise applications. The position combines deep systems engineering, networking expertise, and software development in a fast-paced international environment. You will have significant ownership and the opportunity to shape critical components of modern cloud platforms.
Accountabilities:
As a Senior System Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Designing, developing, and improving core networking services that support large-scale cloud infrastructure.
- Developing and maintaining data plane components for advanced cloud network services.
- Designing and implementing reliable, high-performance software solutions for large-scale infrastructure.
- Improving service scalability, performance, and reliability through architectural enhancements and optimization.
- Developing new service functionality, including support for additional endpoints and improved health-check mechanisms.
- Optimizing interactions between distributed services within a microservice-based control plane architecture.
- Automating complex cross-service workflows to improve operational efficiency.
- Performing load testing and analyzing system behavior under high-traffic conditions.
- Contributing to the evolution of cloud networking technologies, including connectivity, traffic delivery, and network management solutions.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate is an experienced systems engineer with:
- Proven experience writing reliable, high-performance production code.
- Strong programming skills in C, with willingness and ability to learn Go and C++.
- Experience with network traffic routing and network infrastructure concepts.
- Understanding of distributed systems, cloud environments, and service-oriented architectures.
- Ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop scalable solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Experience with VPP, DPDK, or the Linux kernel networking subsystem is a plus.
- Knowledge of virtual networks, overlays, SDN, NFV, DPI, network protocols, routing, tunneling, BGP, or MPLS is considered an advantage.
- Ability to successfully complete technical coding assessments as part of the recruitment process.
