The Role
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will help shape the future of Royal Navy capability by supporting the development of innovative Hybrid Navy solutions and complex System of Systems integration activities.
This is an opportunity to support one of QinetiQ's most significant growth initiatives, helping shape how future naval capabilities, autonomous systems and complex networks are integrated into operational reality.
Day-to-day, you'll work closely with customers, engineers and defence stakeholders to develop technical solutions, support capability development and help translate operational requirements into practical engineering outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the development of System of Systems solutions across maritime and defence programmes
- Engaging with customers to understand operational requirements and future capability needs
- Contributing to technical bids, proposals and engineering documentation
- Supporting systems engineering activities across the engineering lifecycle
- Working with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative naval capability solutions
- Supporting operational experimentation and future force development activities
Essential experience of the Senior Systems Engineer:
- Systems Engineering experience within Defence, Maritime or complex engineering environments
- Understanding of System of Systems integration principles
- Experience working with customer requirements and stakeholder engagement
- Knowledge of maritime combat systems, command and control or defence platforms
- Understanding of systems engineering lifecycle processes
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams

Essential qualifications for the Senior Systems Engineer:
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional registration

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Portsmouth Technology Park site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.
Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
PTP
Portsmouth Technology Park (PTP) is one of QinetiQ’s key facilities, focusing on advanced technology development and engineering services. It is dedicated to research and development, ensuring that complex systems are designed, integrated, and tested effectively to meet operational requirements. The facility utilises sophisticated modelling and simulation techniques to analyse and predict performance.
Please note that all applicants for this role must be eligible for SC clearance, as a minimum.
