Senior Systems Engineer

6 Month Contract

Location: Home / Farnborough (3 days onsite)

Rate: £700 - £750 per day (Inside IR35)

We are looking to recruit an SC Cleared Senior Systems Engineer for a leading technology consultancy on an initial 6 month contract.

This is a senior, technically focused Systems Engineering position with responsibility for defining and applying appropriate systems engineering approaches across a significant project. You will work closely with technical leads, project managers and customer stakeholders, while also providing guidance and direction to more junior Systems Engineers.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the application of Systems Engineering principles across complex technical projects.
  • Define appropriate Systems Engineering processes, methods and deliverables.
  • Elicit, analyse and manage stakeholder and system requirements.
  • Support system architecture, system design and requirements engineering activities.
  • Determine appropriate modelling and analysis approaches.
  • Produce and assure technical documentation, engineering plans, specifications and design outputs.
  • Provide technical leadership to other Systems Engineers and review engineering deliverables.
  • Work closely with senior technical, programme and customer stakeholders.
  • Ensure designs and engineering activities meet relevant regulatory, safety, security and technical standards.
  • Identify technical risks and issues and develop appropriate mitigation approaches.
  • Support systems engineering management across the wider project lifecycle.

  • 7-10+ years' experience within Systems Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering lifecycle processes and methodologies.
  • Experience across areas such as requirements engineering, system design, modelling, verification, validation or systems engineering management.
  • Strong understanding of stakeholder requirements, system requirements, specifications and system design documentation.
  • Experience working on medium-to-large scale complex engineering programmes.
  • Ability to define appropriate Systems Engineering approaches rather than simply following established processes.
  • Strong technical documentation, stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience providing technical leadership or mentoring junior engineers.
  • Understanding of engineering assurance, safety, security, cost and schedule considerations.
  • Previous experience within Defence, Government or another highly regulated engineering environment.
  • Maritime domain knowledge would be highly advantageous.
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent engineering experience.
  • CEng or equivalent professional standing is highly desirable.
