Senior Systems Engineer – Market Data Observability & Latency Platform

Location: London
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week

About the Role

We are seeking a senior systems engineer to join an exciting greenfield initiative within one of the world’s largest market data platforms. You will work at the heart of a globally distributed environment, building the capability to monitor, measure, and understand market data performance across 40+ global data centres.

The role focuses on synthetic testing, latency measurement, and building the aggregation layers required to transform large-scale performance data into meaningful global latency maps and health insights.

You will work across complex, low-latency systems where scale, reliability, and real-time visibility are critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build systems to support globally distributed synthetic testing of market data flows across 40+ data centres
  • Develop aggregation layers to collect, process, and unify latency data from multiple sources
  • Create global latency views and health dashboards to provide end-to-end visibility of market data performance
  • Work with large-scale, distributed data sets to identify performance bottlenecks and improve system observability
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve monitoring, diagnostics, and operational insight across critical platforms
  • Contribute to the architecture and development of a new capability from the ground up

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Ideal Backgrounds

Candidates may come from environments such as:

  • Real-time streaming platforms (Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming)
  • Time-series data platforms
  • Low-latency databases or graph-based systems
  • High-frequency trading or electronic trading environments
  • Large-scale distributed infrastructure companies
  • Online advertising / bidding platforms where latency and scale are critical

What Makes This Role Different

This is not a pure C++ engineering role. The successful candidate will be a technically versatile engineer who understands how complex systems behave at scale and can work across different technologies to solve challenging performance problems.

You will be joining a greenfield project focused on improving visibility into one of the world’s largest market data ecosystems — giving you the opportunity to shape a platform that sits at the centre of global financial markets.
