Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to lead in the development and integration of complex maritime defence systems throughout the full engineering lifecycle.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Elicit, analyse and manage stakeholder needs and craft verifiable system requirements with quality attributes and acceptance criteria.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to decompose user requirements into system and design requirements.
  • Establish and maintain traceability between user requirements, system design and testing to ensure alignment throughout the full Verification and Validation lifecycle.
  • Develop system context, use cases, functional, physical and logical architectures and interface control documents that align with maritime defence requirements.
  • Define Verification plans, test strategies and test cases. Ensure system elements developed across different engineering disciplines are effectively integrated into a coherent system solution.
  • Facilitate communication and shared understanding across multidisciplinary engineering teams by applying lifecycle frameworks such as the V-Model.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, ensuring the reliability and resilience of deployed systems. Specifically, FMEA and FTA.
  • Ensure that developed systems comply with relevant maritime defence standards and regulations.
  • Provide mentoring to junior members of the team to support career development.
  • The post holder is required to be aware of and fulfil those roles and responsibilities applicable to them contained within SP02 Health, Safety and Environmental Roles and Responsibilities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in engineering with a focus on the maritime defence sector.
  • Experience with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards for marine systems and equipment. In particular, experience designing for class approval against Lloyds Register or DNV-GL is beneficial.
  • Strong knowledge of maritime defence technologies.
  • Proven experience throughout the design, development, and testing stages of maritime platforms.
  • A working knowledge of the Systems Modelling Language (SysML).
