Senior Systems Engineer – MarkLogic
Location: Remote – Europe or LATAM; Hybrid - India
Engagement Type: Up to 1 year
Experience: 5–8 Years
Job Type: Direct Contract
Job Purpose:
We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Systems Engineer to support and enhance our client’s Content Management System (CMS) and MarkLogic infrastructure. This is a short-term engagement focused on a strategic Proof of Concept (PoC), with the potential for longer-term continuation based on performance and business needs.
The role will also contribute to a strategic Proof of Concept (PoC) initiative focused on AI-readiness, semantic content structuring, and knowledge graph capabilities using MarkLogic.
Key Accountabilities or Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert-level support and maintenance for RSuite CMS and MarkLogic systems.
- Collaborate regularly with global teams and daily with a UK-based engineering team to ensure system stability and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to content ingestion, transformation, and delivery.
- Develop and maintain XSLT transformations and XML pipelines.
- Optimize performance and scalability of the MarkLogic database.
- Support content workflows and integrations within RSuite CMS.
- Create and maintain technical documentation and best practices.
- Regular collaboration with global teams, with daily interactions with UK-based team.
- Support the client's PoC initiative focused on Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and AI delivery via MCP.
- Evaluate and recommend infrastructure and resourcing strategies for scaling semantic content delivery using MarkLogic's RDF triple store and knowledge graph capabilities.
- Collaborate with the client's principal systems engineer to provide external expertise on MarkLogic and AI integration.

Skills, Qualification & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
- 5–8 years of experience in a Systems Engineering or similar technical role.
- Proven hands-on experience with MarkLogic or comparable NoSQL/XML databases.
- Experience with RSuite CMS or other enterprise-grade content management systems.
- Strong proficiency in XML, XSLT, XPath, and related technologies.
- Solid understanding of NoSQL database architecture and performance tuning.
- Excellent communication skills and experience working in distributed teams.
- Regularly interact and communicate with client-side stakeholders.
- Working in a fast-paced environment.
- Take work and tasks from client-side stakeholders directly or worked in teams where client-side stakeholders are involved.
- Experience supporting AI-related initiatives or PoCs involving semantic content structuring.

Technical Skillset:
Must Have:
- MarkLogic (including RDF triple store and semantic capabilities)
- RSuite CMS
- XML, XSLT, XPath
- NoSQL database performance tuning
- REST APIs
Desirable:
- Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
- Knowledge of AI delivery platforms like MCP
- Understanding of knowledge graph design and implementation
- Experience in publishing or digital content industries
- Familiarity with third-party system integrations
Preferred Attributes:
- Strong team collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking.
- Ability to contribute to strategic planning for AI-readiness and content scalability.
- Adaptability to short-term and long-term project scopes.
