We're looking for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer (Product) – Gas Analysis Solutions to help shape the future of our products by leading systems engineering activities across the full product development lifecycle.
This critical opportunity is ideal for a technically capable engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, working across multiple engineering disciplines, and translating customer and business needs into robust, well-engineered solutions. You'll play a key role in establishing systems engineering best practice, driving technical governance, and ensuring products are released with confidence in their performance, safety, reliability, and compliance.

What You'll Be Doing
Working closely with Research, Product Development, Software, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Production, Quality, and Regulatory teams, you will:
Requirements Engineering
- Lead the capture, analysis, and management of customer, stakeholder, business, and regulatory requirements
- Translate user needs into clear, measurable, and testable system requirements
- Establish and maintain complete bidirectional traceability throughout the product lifecycle
- Facilitate requirements reviews and ensure alignment between stakeholders and development teams
- Manage requirement changes and maintain configuration control throughout development
System Architecture & Design
- Contribute to system architecture development and technical solution definition
- Support concept development, requirements allocation, and design trade-off activities
- Evaluate technical decisions against performance, reliability, compliance, manufacturability, and business objectives
- Ensure solutions remain scalable, maintainable, and testable
Risk Management & Technical Governance
- Lead system-level risk assessments and FMEA activities
- Identify, communicate, and manage technical risks throughout product development
- Facilitate design reviews and provide robust technical justification for engineering decisions
- Apply systems-thinking approaches to root cause investigations and problem solving

Verification & Validation
- Develop verification and validation strategies aligned to system and product requirements
- Define acceptance criteria, verification methods, and evidence requirements
- Review verification results and validation outcomes to ensure complete coverage of requirements
- Support system-level testing activities and provide objective assessments of product readiness
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Champion systems engineering best practices across the business
About You
We're looking for someone with the desire to own the full product development lifecycle, with the ability to influence across multidisciplinary teams.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Strong experience and understanding of systems engineering principles across the full product lifecycle (from requirement to post release)
- Solid and proven experience in product development and technical leadership
- Experience with requirements elicitation, decomposition, allocation, and management
- Proven experience maintaining requirements traceability
- Strong knowledge of verification and validation methodologies
- Experience leading risk assessments, FMEA activities, and technical reviews
- Understanding of system architecture development and interface management
- Experience working with multidisciplinary products involving software, electronics, mechanics, instrumentation, and complex systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach to root cause analysis
- Ability to balance technical, commercial, regulatory, and operational considerations when making engineering decisions
- Experience mentoring engineers and promoting engineering best practice
Desirable Experience and Skills
- Experience with requirements management tools such as Jama, DOORS, or equivalent
- Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML
- Experience within analytical instrumentation, spectroscopy, gas analysis, process monitoring, or related technologies
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, CE/UKCA compliance, EMC, and product safety standards
- Exposure to automated testing, data analysis, Python, or LabVIEW
- INCOSE, Six Sigma, Project Management, Quality, or Atlassian/Jira certifications
Qualifications
- Degree-qualified in Systems Engineering, Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Electronics, Software Engineering, or a related discipline

Location
- Crowborough, East Sussex (onsite five days/week, Monday to Friday) during probation.
- A hybrid working arrangement of 3 to 4 days onsite after probation – flexibility may be required due to business demands
Type of Opportunity

Salary
- £60,000 to £65,000
