Senior Systems Engineer (Control & Automation)

Location: Fareham, England
Type: Full-time

Our client is an international industrial services leader and automation specialist delivering high-integrity technology and engineering solutions across major regulated infrastructure sectors worldwide. Operating from primary UK delivery hubs, they combine multi-sector capability with cutting-edge control, SCADA, and Industry 4.0 expertise to deliver complex capital projects.

Role Overview:

Takes technical leadership for the end-to-end delivery of control and automation solutions across multi-industry projects (Nuclear, Energy, Oil & Gas, Pharma, Utilities). Manages technical scope, supervises engineering teams, and ensures projects meet safety, timeline, and budget targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Delivery: Lead control system design and execution (PLC, HMI, SCADA, MES, Batch) throughout the full lifecycle.
  • Team Supervision: Assign work packages, monitor technical progress, mentor project engineers, and manage technical risks with the Project Manager.
  • Design & Specs: Conduct site surveys, upfront studies, and write core design documentation (FDS, DDS, RAMS, O&M manuals).
  • Development & Testing: Develop PLC modules, SCADA scripts, and network drivers. Lead FAT, SAT, and site commissioning.
  • Standardisation & Bidding: Drive code modularization/reusability and support bid teams with effort estimation and technical scope reviews.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Education & Chartership: Degree, HND, or HNC in Electrical/Electronic or Control Engineering. CEng status or actively working toward registration.
  • Core Experience: End-to-end track record in PLC/SCADA systems delivery, plus a sound understanding of control panels, electrical design, and instrumentation.
  • Desirable: Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, AVEVA, or Ignition; industrial networks (OPC, Modbus, Profinet); virtualisation (VMware); OT Cyber Security; or Functional Safety (IEC 61508/61511).
