Job Description
Join our team as a Product Safety / Systems Safety Engineer and play a key role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and integrity of complex systems within highly regulated engineering environments. You will support the delivery of safety engineering activities across the full project lifecycle, helping to develop robust Safety Cases, conduct detailed safety analyses, and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
This role offers the opportunity to work on complex and safety-critical programmes across Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Nuclear, and other regulated sectors, helping to ensure systems are designed, developed, and operated safely throughout their lifecycle.
Location: Bristol or Crawley
On-site: Hybrid (3 days per week)
Seniority: Senior (5+ years of Safety Experience)
Security Clearance: Candidates must be willing and eligible to obtain SC clearance.
Key Responsibilities & Experience
- Lead and deliver Systems Safety Engineering activities across the full project lifecycle within highly regulated and safety-critical environments.
- Develop and maintain Safety Cases, ensuring robust safety arguments and compliance with ALARP principles.
- Perform and support safety analyses including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA), Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Common Cause Failure Analysis, Interface Hazard Analysis (IHA), Hazard Analysis Reports, and Hazard Log management.
- Identify, capture, manage, and verify safety requirements, ensuring safety considerations are embedded throughout system development.
- Support the planning and delivery of safety engineering work packages, including management of technical scope, priorities, and stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, regulatory frameworks, and project safety management processes.

Qualifications
Required Skills
- Proven experience in Systems Safety Engineering within Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Nuclear, Oil & Gas, or other highly regulated industries.
- Strong experience developing and managing Safety Cases and producing robust ALARP arguments.
- Extensive experience applying safety analysis techniques including FTA, ETA, FMECA, FFA, Hazard Analysis, Hazard Logs, and IHA.
- Experience working within a formal Safety Management System and implementing safety processes at project level.
- Knowledge of industry standards including Def Stan 00-056, Def Stan 00-055, EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, IEC 61508, ARP4761, DO-178, and DO-254.
- Understanding of UK and international safety regulatory frameworks and safety compliance requirements.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or relevant technical military background with equivalent experience.
Desirable Skills
- Experience planning and delivering safety engineering programmes of work.
- Experience managing engineering work packages and budgets.
- Knowledge of safety occurrence investigations and root cause analysis methodologies.
- Experience supporting defence certification, assurance, or approval activities.
- Familiarity with hazard management and safety lifecycle management tools.
