Job Summary
Acting as a technical consultant or project engineer, applies fundamental engineering principles, procedures, and techniques to perform systems engineering assignments related to the development of electronic and software intensive systems and subsystems. Works closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure inter-disciplinary communication and coordination. Provides technical guidance, leadership, and supervision. Coordinates activities for proposals/new business. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Support Programs of Record (POR’s) which Cubic has equipment fielded to include architecture, configuration, product acceptance testing, and initial fielding activities
- Provide technical and sales support for accounts in assigned territory. Perform technical presentations for customers, partners, and prospects
- Assist with the development of formal sales plans and proposals for assigned opportunities
- Actively participate as a specialist who provides consultative support in their area of specialization to other Systems Engineers
- Directly supports account managers across sales territories
- Conceptualize, specifications, and test plans for systems and equipment based on customer/contract requirements
- Researches design concepts and feasibility utilizing advanced technical theory and knowledge
- Coordinates and develops project concepts, objectives, specifications, and resource needs. Monitors project status and system performance measures. Ensures compliance with contractual requirements for all engineering tasks
- Directs, coordinates, and contributes to compilation and writing of proposal documents. Prepares design proposals to reflect cost and schedule estimates for defined engineering tasks
- Develops system architectures that relates requirements and interfaces so that effectiveness of system design concept is clearly communicated to customer
- Performs system requirement analysis and reviews system and subsystem design and interface specifications
- Provides marketing support, customer/subcontractor liaison, and technical direction to engineers and technicians
- Participates or leads development of new business proposals, and preparation of associated cost rationale
- Participates or leads both internal and external design reviews and status meetings
- Performs system modeling and simulation, trade studies, and system functional analyses
- Works closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure coordination and integration of system elements and interface requirements, both internally and with teammates/subcontractors
- Maintains knowledge of and follows applicable policies and procedures governing work assignments
- May participate in or lead a team effort to solve engineering problems or develop improved engineering processes
- Comply with Cubic’s values and adherence to all company policy and procedures. In particular, comply with the code of conduct, quality, security, and occupational health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures
- In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by their manager from time-to-time, as may be reasonably required of them

Minimum Job Requirements

- Degree in computer science, information technology, or related discipline with proven experience in the Information Technology (IT) and Internet Protocol (IP) networking area
- College education may be waived based upon experience and certifications such as Cisco, Aruba, VMware, and Microsoft at the discretion of hiring manager
- Knowledge of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and overall IP networking technology required
- Ability to load, configure, and implement virtual machines in a VMware environment along with other hypervisors required
- Knowledge of deployed communications and communications such as SATCOM, 3G/4G LTE, MANET, and fiber desired
- Certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CCNP in Route and Switch, Security, and IP telephony desired
- Highly effective written and oral communication skills
- Must be able to work independently and with a team supporting various customers at both the executive and technical engineer level supporting pre, during, and post-sales environments
- Knowledge of customer communication needs and competing products a must in the defense environment a plus
- Military communications experience desired but not required
- Must be eligible to obtain a security clearance
- Must be willing to travel
