Senior Tailor / Sample Machinist – Freelance

Momso is a female-led professional sewing and textiles studio based in South London.

We are looking for two highly accomplished Senior Tailors / Sample Machinists to join our busy studio on a freelance, self-employed basis. This is a senior position for experienced professionals who can work confidently and independently from day one. You'll handle varied work, including bridalwear, men's and women's tailoring, alterations, samples, prototyping, and small-batch production.

You must be able to assess a garment or product, determine method, and complete it to a high professional standard without ongoing instruction. Essential requirements include:

  • Advanced skills in garment construction, tailoring, bridalwear, and finishing
  • Confident use of industrial machines
  • Minimum seven years' paid professional experience in a commercial environment
  • Home sewing alone is not sufficient

Shortlisted applicants will complete a practical sewing assessment.

Initial one-month period, around 15 hours per week, is paid freelance work with the rate disclosed and discussed at interview. Following a successful first month, hours are expected to increase to around 30 per week, subject to workload and agreement, with the rate reviewed.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK, and be permitted to undertake self-employed freelance work. Ideally based in South London or able to travel easily to our studio.
