BUSINESS TAX MANAGER / SENIOR MANAGER

Location: Bath
Reporting to: Directors
Key relationships: Tax, Accounts and Audit teams
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

THE OPPORTUNITY

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and experienced Business Tax Manager or Senior Manager to join a leading chartered accountancy practice in Bath.

Acting as the practice’s lead business tax specialist, you will work closely with the Director group, including the Head of Tax, to support a diverse portfolio of corporate and owner-managed business clients.

You will also collaborate with the Senior Tax Manager/Head of Department, Audit Director and Associate Directors to deliver commercially focused business tax strategies, corporate restructuring advice and integrated tax planning.

The position has a strong focus on Corporation Tax and business tax advisory services. You will also act as a key point of technical quality control across the Corporation Tax and business tax compliance portfolio.

Experience in VAT advisory and compliance would be highly advantageous and would complement the wider responsibilities of the role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporation Tax and Business Tax Advisory

  • Lead complex Corporation Tax advisory engagements, including corporate reorganisations, demergers, share buybacks and group restructures.
  • Structure and submit advance clearance applications to HMRC, including clearances under s138 TCGA 1992 and s701 ITA 2007.
  • Oversee and review technical Corporation Tax computations for complex companies and corporate groups.
  • Design and implement Employee-Related Securities schemes, Enterprise Management Incentives and unapproved share option arrangements.
  • Advise clients on Capital Gains Tax planning, Business Asset Disposal Relief, Substantial Shareholding Exemption and loss-relief optimisation.

VAT and Indirect Tax

  • Provide technical VAT advice on commercial transactions, option-to-tax elections, land and property transactions and Transfer of a Going Concern status.
  • Advise clients on international VAT and indirect tax matters, including cross-border supplies of goods and services and post-Brexit place-of-supply rules.
  • Identify VAT recovery opportunities and assist with partial-exemption calculations.
  • Support clients through HMRC VAT assurance reviews and other VAT-related enquiries.
  • Consider VAT implications alongside wider corporate tax transactions to ensure advice is structured holistically.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
