Senior Tax Manager

£75,000-£88,000 Cardiff

This role is less about receiving another portfolio and more about becoming genuinely important to the running of a growing tax team. A successful family-owned accountancy firm is investing in its next layer of leadership and is looking for a Senior Tax Manager who can work closely with an experienced Tax Director, take responsibility for key clients, and help manage the flow of work across the department.

The client base is predominantly business owners, entrepreneurs, families, and privately owned companies, so the work naturally crosses personal and corporate tax rather than sitting inside one narrow technical area. The firm is based in Cardiff and is already highly profitable, with the next phase of investment focused on building additional senior capacity without losing the culture and client relationships that have driven its growth.

Your Remit

  • Taking senior ownership of a portfolio of business and individual clients
  • Reviewing complex personal and corporation tax work
  • Leading advisory assignments across CGT, IHT, restructuring, and owner-managed business matters
  • Managing workflow, deadlines, and priorities across the tax team
  • Acting as a technical sounding board for Managers and Seniors
  • Developing people and raising capability beneath you
  • Building strong relationships through regular face-to-face meetings
  • Working alongside the Tax Director on important or technically involved clients
  • Identifying opportunities to broaden existing relationships
  • Supporting selected new client and referral opportunities

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Requirements

The Senior Tax Manager should have substantial experience within a UK accountancy practice and enough breadth to understand both the individual and commercial sides of a client's position. Purely corporate tax backgrounds are unlikely to be the strongest fit. The portfolio needs somebody comfortable advising owners personally as well as dealing with their businesses. CTA would be particularly relevant, although ACA, ACCA, or strong equivalent experience will also be considered.

Why This One is Worth Considering

  • The opportunity comes from growth rather than replacement.
  • The firm has an unusually strong record of retaining its people, with numerous employees having developed careers of ten years or more.
  • Continued investment means there is genuine room above rather than somebody telling you to be patient for the next six years.
  • The Senior Tax Manager will become one of the most visible people within the Cardiff tax team and should have a credible route towards Director as responsibilities increase.

What's on Offer

  • £75,000-£88,000
  • Genuine number-two style responsibility
  • High-quality mixed-tax portfolio
  • Increasing advisory and leadership exposure
  • Strong internal progression
  • Direct relationship with senior decision-makers
  • Highly profitable and growing accountancy business
  • A culture where strong performers are given greater responsibility and rewarded accordingly

This is firmly a relationship-led environment. Senior advisers are expected to know their clients, meet them regularly, and be accessible when something important arises. For an experienced Senior Tax Manager who wants more influence without disappearing into the hierarchy of a much larger firm, this opportunity offers considerable scope.
