The Role

Reporting to the Head of Partnership Tax and Accounting, the Senior Tax Manager will be responsible for managing the tax affairs of the LLP and its members (partners), ensuring compliance with UK partnership tax requirements whilst providing a proactive and commercially focused tax service to the firm and its partners. The role will also manage the internal tax team, which currently comprises two people.

The role will take the lead on the day-to-day operation of the firm's partner tax reserve arrangements, partner tax reporting, tax cashflow forecasting and oversight of the LLP's annual tax compliance process. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Partnership Tax and Accounting, external tax advisers, Finance leadership and partners across the business to ensure the effective management of tax risks, obligations and funding requirements.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Oversee the annual partnership tax return process, partner UK tax filings, subsidiary entity corporation tax and overseas tax filings.
  • Identify and monitor tax risks affecting the LLP, its subsidiaries and its members.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant tax legislation and reporting obligations.
  • Review adjusted profit computations; review tax adjustments and ensure consistency with accounting records and partnership allocations.
  • In conjunction with Head of Partnership Tax and Accounting, manage the firm's partner tax reserve policy and processes.
  • Support the Payroll team in their calculation of tax reserves from drawings.
  • Assist with the tax aspects of partner admissions, retirements and changes in profit-sharing arrangements.
  • Support partners in understanding their tax obligations arising from LLP membership.
  • Reconcile partner tax reserve accounts and oversee tax reserve movements.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to partners on UK tax matters relating to their membership.
  • Support the team on Overseas Working requests with an emphasis on PE implications.
  • Manage the relationship with the firm's external tax advisers on a day to day basis.
  • Produce cashflow forecasts relating to partner tax liabilities and reserve requirements.
  • Monitor legislative developments affecting LLPs and their members.
  • Support projects involving partnership restructuring and organisational change.
  • Provide technical guidance on matters affecting member UK taxation.
  • Maintain appropriate tax controls, procedures and documentation.
  • Support the development and operation of the firm's tax governance framework.
  • Manage responses to HMRC enquiries and tax authority correspondence, alongside our external advisors.
  • Support internal and external audits where tax information is required.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and technical support to junior members of the team.
  • Support strategic projects including partner remuneration reviews, partnership restructuring and business change initiatives.
  • Drive process improvement and automation initiatives within the tax function.

Skills/Experience

  • Accounting and or Taxation Qualification, or QBE.
  • Extensive experience of individual partner taxation and related accounting.
  • Experience working in a partnership environment preferred but not essential.
  • Strong attention to detail with a methodical and logical approach.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and stakeholders.
  • High levels of confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy.
  • Confident in dealing face to face with partners in a measured way with the ability to impart complex financial information in meaningful manner.
  • Highly organised with an eye for efficiencies and improvements.
  • An interest in, and practical understanding of, how AI and other digital tools can be used responsibly to improve the efficiency, accuracy and consistency of tax and finance processes.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise conflicting requirements effectively.
  • Ability to work independently to research and provide advice on technical tax matters coupled with forward planning skills.
  • Hard working, flexible and willing to undertake ad hoc projects and duties within a small team.
