Job Description: Senior/Group Tax Manager
This private commodity trader has operations in three continents and employs over 600 people across 12 different countries.
With London serving as Rest of World headquarters, the need has arisen to appoint a Senior/Group Tax Manager. You will have a focus on direct taxes and transfer pricing, and be an experienced in-house tax professional with a hands-on approach. You will report directly to the C-suite and be a key member of the global tax team, with direct tax colleagues in the US and indirect tax team members based in London.
Key Responsibilities
UK Corporate Tax Compliance and Reporting
- Prepare UK corporation tax computations and returns.
- Prepare additional UK reporting, including corporate interest restriction returns, any applicable international controlled transaction return, and other statutory filings or notifications.
- Manage UK withholding tax obligations and prepare treaty-clearance or relief applications.
- Monitor relevant UK tax law and administrative developments.
- Ensure compliance with Hybrids mismatch legislation.
International Tax Compliance and Transfer Pricing
- Lead the relationship with advisers for tax filings in Hong Kong, Switzerland, and the UAE.
- Ensure branch filings are complete and timely, including corporate tax returns, related-party transaction reports, registrations, information requests, and associated payments.
- Prepare, coordinate, and review submissions to tax authorities, responses to enquiries, and other written technical material, engaging local advisers as appropriate.
- Prepare annual transfer pricing profit-share calculations.
- Maintain compliance with transfer pricing documentation requirements.
- Maintain practical working knowledge of OECD initiatives, including Pillar Two and Country-by-Country Reporting, and coordinate with tax colleagues to meet the group’s obligations.

Tax Accounting, Cash, and Financial Reporting
- Calculate and book monthly tax provisions for all in-scope branches and entities.
- Calculate and book year-end current and deferred tax provisions, reconcile tax balance-sheet accounts, and explain material movements or judgements.
- Prepare tax disclosure notes for the financial statements of UK entities.
- Ensure corporate tax liabilities across the UK and EMEA are paid on time and that tax receivables, payables, and cash movements are appropriately accounted for.
- Monitor foreign-exchange exposures arising on tax receivables and payables and work with Treasury to ensure appropriate hedging action is taken.
Governance, Controls, and Continuous Improvement
- Own and maintain a comprehensive tax compliance and reporting.
- Provide concise progress reporting that enables senior personnel to understand compliance status, cash requirements, exposures, and required decisions at any time.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation, evidence of review, and clear process ownership.
- Identify practical opportunities to improve data, controls, templates, systems, and recurring processes, reducing avoidable manual work and deadline risk.
Key Advisory Duties
- Provide practical, timely tax advice to Finance, Treasury, Legal, Operations, HR, Trade Accounting, and commercial teams.
- Provide corporate tax advisory across the UK, HK, UAE, and Switzerland.
- Monitor, assess, and communicate the impact of UK, local, and international tax developments.
- Maintain familiarity with OECD initiatives, including Pillar 2 and Country-by-Country reporting.
- Assess the impact of specific legislation requirements, including hybrid mismatch rules, Corporate Interest Restriction, withholding tax, and controlled transaction reporting.
- Own and develop the transfer pricing framework Europe.
- Ensure transfer pricing intercompany agreements are current and consistent.
- Partner with Finance to review recharge calculations, cost allocation bases, and mark-ups.
- Manage the tax profile of permanent establishments across HK, UAE, and Switzerland.
- Monitor commercial operations to identify permanent establishment risks.
- Manage ad hoc advisory, governance, and remediation projects, ensuring clear ownership, proportionate risk management, timely delivery, and high-quality outputs.

About You
- ACA/ACCA/CTA qualified or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years corporate and international tax experience.
- Experience of advising or working for a commodities/trading business.
- Proven in-house tax experience.
- Big 4 or top 10 firm training.
- Ability to explain complex tax matters in plain language.
