Senior Tax Manager
Location: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
Hours: 8.30am - 4.30pm, Monday - Friday
Salary: Up to £75,000, depending on experience
Holiday: 33 Days including Bank Holidays
Our client is a well-established independent accountancy and tax advisory firm that works primarily with owner-managed businesses, SMEs, and high-net-worth individuals. Established in 2011, they combine specialist tax expertise, strategic business advice, and traditional accountancy services, taking a proactive, hands-on approach to help clients achieve their long-term financial and commercial objectives.
As a senior tax manager, you'll be playing a key role within the business shaping the way the tax team works. Working closely with directors and a diverse portfolio of owner-managed businesses and private clients, you'll provide strategic tax and business advice throughout the full business lifecycle, from start-up and growth through to succession and exit planning. The role offers an excellent balance of advisory and compliance work, exposure to complex tax matters, and genuine opportunities for long-term career progression.
Position Duties
- Build trusted relationships with owner-managed businesses and private clients, providing tailored tax and commercial advice.
- Deliver tax advisory services across business restructures, management buyouts (MBOs), business sales and acquisitions, company valuations, employee incentive schemes, venture capital schemes, estate planning, succession planning, tax disclosures, and HMRC enquiries.
- Oversee and manage tax compliance work while maintaining a strong focus on delivering value-added advisory services.
- Prepare clear, concise, and technically accurate reports to communicate tax advice effectively.
- Review the work of junior and peer team members, providing guidance and maintaining high technical standards.
- Liaise with HMRC and external professional advisors on behalf of clients.
- Support business development activities and contribute to the continued growth of the practice.
- Keep up to date with changes in tax legislation and HMRC guidance to ensure clients receive accurate and proactive advice.
- Produce technical updates and contribute to marketing content and thought leadership initiatives.
- Develop and maintain long-term client relationships through a proactive and consultative approach.
- Travel occasionally across the UK to attend client meetings where required.

Position Requirements
- Professionally qualified with a CTA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent accounting/tax qualification.
- At least five years of senior-level experience gained within a professional accountancy practice.
- Strong technical expertise across both personal and corporate tax matters.
- Demonstrable experience providing tax advice and strategic support to owner-managed businesses.
- Commercially aware with the confidence to build trusted relationships and advise clients directly.
- Experienced in managing a blend of advisory services alongside tax compliance responsibilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, professional reports.
- Capable of working independently while maintaining close collaboration with directors and senior colleagues.
- Proactive and client-focused, with a genuine commitment to delivering value-added advice and solutions.
- Holds a full UK driving licence.

Position Remuneration
- Salary up to £75,000 commensurate with your experience and qualifications.
