Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technical Accountant to join our Ipswich team. You'll be supporting the Statutory Reporting and Technical Accounting Manager in handling the statutory reporting and technical accounting work for the AXA UK Group. The team aims to be the expert resource on technical accounting and act as the main contact for local statutory reporting, covering UK GAAP and IFRS, as well as Group reporting under IFRS. You'll also be providing independent quality checks on the balance sheet reconciliations of all AXA UK entities.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of statutory financial accounts of each AXA UK entity in accordance with relevant accounting standards, achieving audit clearance and submission to the Boards in line with agreed timetables.
- Assist in the preparation of technical accounting papers, covering key audit topics.
- In conjunction with your manager, for new or emerging technical accounting issues, investigate, interpret, and implement the appropriate accounting treatment liaising and gaining sign off as required from AXA Group and external auditors.
- Provide technical advice and training as requested to support the other Finance teams and other business areas in the AXA Group.
- Assist in the delivery of a programme of independent audits of balance sheet reconciliations performed across all entities.
- Ensure processes identified in scope of IFC are compliant and the necessary documentation is accurately maintained.
- Networking and building relationships within the business to understand the complexities of working within a large matrixed organisation.
- Consistently demonstrate a good understanding of the accounting for insurance, reinsurance, and investment businesses best practices.

Work arrangements
At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team, and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) from December 2026. Away from home means attending the office, visiting clients, or attending industry events.
Your skills & experience
- Sound knowledge of IFRS, FRS 101, and FRS 102.
- Clear understanding of the purpose and nature of independent financial audits and reconciliations.
- Familiarity with company policies, business processes, procedures, and systems within a broader business context.
- Proven ability to work independently, creatively, and effectively under pressure.
- Strong teaching and communication skills to explain technical accounting issues clearly.
- Awareness of current issues affecting the financial services industry.
- Qualified accountant or equivalent through significant relevant experience, with a solid track record in financial accounting and insurance/reinsurance knowledge.
- As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
