Senior Technical Architect | initial 6 Months | £550/day | Leeds
A six month architecture position on a live benefits service that is already paying claims, inside a major UK government department.
THE ROLE
- You would create the technical designs for migrating two legacy working age benefits off an older platform and onto a single multi benefit service.
- Alongside that you would develop designs delivering new capability across the modernisation programme, and support the delivery teams optimising their sub services as the multi benefit service scales.
This is beta work on a service already accepting, paying and closing real claims for real people. It is not greenfield and it is not a slide deck exercise. The designs you produce go through a technical design authority for approval.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

WHY THIS ONE
The programme runs into 2027, so there is a real body of work behind this rather than a single piece of design.
It is also a role with real breadth. You are designing across the full stack on a service that cannot go down, and taking those designs through governance yourself.
“It took my CV and asked me questions relevant to understanding what kind of jobs to suggest for me. Suggestions were almost perfect. Jobs were exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
