About The Job
Job Summary
Help shape the future of HM Land Registry's technology landscape.
As a Senior Technical Architect, you will play a pivotal role in designing and guiding technology solutions that support HMLR's strategic ambitions. Working across a complex and evolving technology environment, you will help ensure that technology investments deliver long-term value, meet business needs, and are aligned with organisational objectives. You will provide architectural leadership, translating business strategy into practical technical solutions while balancing innovation, risk, cost, and operational sustainability.
Job Description
As a Senior Technical Architect, you will work closely with delivery teams, architects, engineers, and senior stakeholders to develop and deliver end-to-end technology solutions. You will take a broad, enterprise-wide view of the organisation's technology estate, assessing the impact of change and ensuring solutions operate effectively within the wider ecosystem. You will provide technical leadership throughout the solution lifecycle, from initial concept through to delivery and ongoing support, solving complex problems and providing clarity in uncertain environments.
You will collaborate with multiple agile teams, influence technical decision-making, build relationships with suppliers and government partners, and ensure solutions comply with security, legal, and regulatory requirements. The role requires a strong understanding of software development, integration, and emerging technologies, together with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders and proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
