Tired of Enterprise Architect roles that never leave the whiteboard? This one's different. You'll be in the room with suppliers, in the detail of the designs, and in the driving seat on technical decisions that actually ship — not producing operating models nobody reads. And you won't be doing it alone: you'll be working closely with a small, senior technical team that genuinely backs each other up, shares the load, and values your judgement from day one.
We're looking for a Senior Technical Architect to join a major UK Government transformation programme, working across a complex, multi-supplier delivery landscape. You'll sit close to senior technical leadership, acting as the sharp, pragmatic voice that keeps supplier delivery honest, technically sound, and moving forward — in a team culture that's collaborative rather than political, and where your expertise is trusted rather than second-guessed.

What you'll actually be doing
- Sitting in supplier technical calls, workshops, and design reviews — and pushing back when something doesn't stack up
- Challenging supplier assumptions, architectural decisions, implementation approaches, and delivery plans
- Reviewing API, integration, and system designs in real detail — not just signing them off
- Driving technical assurance across testing, resilience, observability, and operational readiness
- Spotting technical risk early and proposing solutions that actually work in practice
- Leading discovery work — build-vs-buy analysis, prototyping, proving out ideas before they're built
- Shaping future-state architecture and service modernisation across the programme
Who we want
- A technical architect who's still hands-on — someone who can open a design doc, spot the flaw, and explain exactly why
- Confident and credible in front of suppliers — able to challenge without being obstructive
- Comfortable with ambiguity and detail in equal measure, across a genuinely complex multi-supplier environment
- Active SC clearance, or eligible and willing to obtain it

This is not for you if: you're a governance-first Enterprise Architect who prefers operating models and RACI charts to reviewing a design under pressure. We need someone who wants to be in the detail.
