Role Overview
The Senior Technical Business Development Manager will play a key role in identifying and generating new commercial opportunities for the lift engineering business. This is a field-based role combining deep technical knowledge of the lift and vertical transportation industry with strong commercial instincts and an established network of industry contacts. The role will use technical expertise, industry relationships, customer engagement and technical activity to identify opportunities, provide customers with credible technical advice and develop commercially valuable project opportunities. The successful candidate will be expected to build trusted relationships with customers and key industry stakeholders while generating a sustainable pipeline of profitable opportunities for the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake planned and reactive technical audits and surveys of lift installations, providing customers with credible technical advice based on lift standards, building regulations and industry requirements.
- Identify commercially viable opportunities for lift modernisation, refurbishment, replacement, repair and improvement works.
- Use technical findings and customer requirements to develop clear recommendations and turn these into potential project opportunities.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of self-generated opportunities through customer relationships, site visits, technical activity and your existing industry network.
- Develop trusted, long-term relationships with existing and prospective customers, consultants, contractors, facilities managers, property owners and other key decision-makers.
- Understand customers’ technical, operational and commercial requirements, identifying where the business can add value and supporting their future investment plans.
- Work closely with estimating, technical and operational teams to develop appropriate solutions, project scopes and commercially competitive quotations.
- Manage opportunities from initial identification through to quotation, presentation, commercial negotiation and order, ensuring they meet agreed commercial and margin expectations.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, pipeline information and forecasts, working towards agreed revenue and gross-margin targets.
- Identify formal tender, framework and procurement-led opportunities and work collaboratively with the Growth/Sales Team to ensure these are managed through the appropriate process.
- Maintain a strong presence within the lift industry, using your network and relationships to identify new customers, projects and future opportunities.
- Represent the business at customer meetings, industry events and networking opportunities, helping strengthen our technical reputation and market presence.
- Keep up to date with market trends, competitor activity and emerging customer requirements, providing useful market insight back into the business.
- Build relationships with high-value and strategic customers, creating a sustainable pipeline of profitable project opportunities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
