Senior Technical Manager Opportunity for a Privately Owned Surrey Developer
Our well-established, privately owned client is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Manager or Technical Manager to lead two new residential developments, coordinating architectural, engineering, and design activities from inception to completion.
Role Purpose
The Senior Technical Manager is pivotal in ensuring that design solutions are fully coordinated, cost-effective, compliant, and delivered on schedule. This role involves managing pre-contract and post-contract stages, from initial feasibility studies to the final handover of completed projects. The successful candidate will have a substantial impact on the organisation’s ability to deliver exceptional residential developments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Pre-Contract Responsibilities
- Review feasibility information, site investigations, and technical reports.
- Assist with architectural, engineering, and services input for the Land & Planning team.
- Develop and maintain design programmes.
- Manage and coordinate the production of working drawings.
- Tender, appoint, and manage various consultants.
- Control consultant costs and monitor progress.
- Develop civil engineering designs and progress structural design elements.
- Prepare and submit Building Control and warranty provider applications.
- Produce and maintain technical specifications.
- Ensure timely access to accurate design information for all departments.

Post-Contract Responsibilities
- Attend monthly site meetings to resolve technical queries.
- Respond to day-to-day issues raised by the Construction team.
- Collaborate with Commercial regarding design-related costs.
- Coordinate the collation of completion documentation.
- Support Housing Association meetings and technical approvals.

- Manage design risk registers and ensure compliance with CDM regulations.
- Lead value-engineering exercises.
- Develop and maintain standard house type details and technical libraries.
- Support sustainability strategies and promote modern methods of construction.
- Ensure effective design information management using digital platforms.
Skills And Experience
- Strong technical understanding of residential design, engineering, and construction.
- Ability to lead consultants and internal teams to achieve results.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills.
- Strong communication and coordination skills across departments.
- Self-motivated and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good IT proficiency (AutoCAD, Revit/BIM awareness, Microsoft 365, project management tools).
