Role Description
Drives, leads, and offers technical support to lines, for the manufacture, processing, or packing of food in cans. Optimizing all aspects of their lines to achieve KPIs for health and safety, quality & food safety, OEE, and continuous improvement. Will be the key role in delivering on-the-job training & competency assessment.
Operates as a Senior Technical Operator with responsibility for all aspects of performance of a clearly defined area. Proactively drives best practices and improvements aligned to the Princes Operating System. Will be part of the team operating on a 3-shift system; responsible for the delivery of planned production through the production/packing line.
The key challenges faced will be to ensure guidelines are adhered to for product & process safety, the materials supply, changeovers, and organization of labor on the line; do not impact on overall line performance (OEE) or (RFT) and the utilization of the lines. To analyze potential problems and to take appropriate action to remedy any shortfall in performance, seeing actions through to completion/implementation through SIC. Consistently achieves agreed targets and KPIs i.e. safety, product safety & waste, quality, labor productivity, OEE, and RFT. Consistently organizes and plans for production & Ops maintenance. Builds positive relationships with good morale and cooperation within their team and other areas of the business. Understand and carry out multiple functional areas of job operations and be able to flexibly move across operations as required.
In Summary Principal Accountabilities Are As Set Out Below
- Optimizes equipment performance to meet and exceed key performance indicators in the areas of Safety, Food, Product & Process Safety, Quality, Yield, OEE, Cost, Right First Time, and Service. Initiates corrective actions where required standards are not being met.
- Monitors compliance with CCPs always.
- Monitors and ensures correct disposal of waste.
- Audits and verifies area of responsibility ensuring we are doing what we say we are doing against our processes, policies, and compliance requirements.
- Ensuring the cleaning of lines to a set standard is achieved. Hygiene audits to be carried out on time.
- Records information on shift reports and performs effective detailed shift hand over/hygiene walk round – following a structured format.
- Daily tours of area – auditing all KPIs.
- Liaise with internal suppliers over material problems and reports on quality issues (e.g., raise a QNC).
- Checks, fault finds, and problem solves, seeing any actions through to completion. Raise work requesters, if required.
- Demonstrates understanding of complex problems and can identify and implement solutions to resolve using basic problem-solving tools.
- Always obtains required standards for area of responsibility – taking positive actions to correct if sub-standard.
- Communicates effectively with key stakeholders, including team members, peers, line managers, etc.
- Understands effects, takes appropriate actions of their area’s performance internally, and externally.
- Continuously and constructively challenges current ways of working.
- Identifies and acts upon opportunities for improvement.
- Shares with peer group best practice and key learning’s to ensure optimum performance across a shift system.
- Will be self-motivated, committed to all aspects of their role, and require little supervision; teamwork is therefore essential for success within a fully integrated manufacturing team.
- Identifies teams training needs and address with peers.
- Enthuses and encourages others to work towards common goals and delivery of departmental objectives and KPIs.
- Recognises own successes and areas for development.
- Prepares for own EDR and involved and supports delivery of operators EDR, giving constructive feedback.
- Ensures all SAP and MES transactions and reports are completed in a timely manner.
- Ensures operations engineering PMs are completed to the required frequency and standard.
- Leads, implements, and sustains new PMS standardisation methods, changing the way we operate in the department/site.
- Ensuring that training tasks are up to date from reviewing the training matrices, identifying, and putting in place training plans to cover any gaps in skills. Reviews and completes sign off for training documentation i.e., SOPs as required.
- Deputises for the Shift Coordinator due to holidays / sickness / training courses etc. and fulfil their duties and responsibilities of that role.
- Flexibility to be moved/trained across the site and to utilize skills in other departments.

Role Requirements
- Experience within a food-processing environment and understanding of hygiene standards is essential.
- Competent numeracy/literacy skills.
- Demonstrable experience in driving continuous improvement.
- Ability to deliver high-quality training to other operators, in their areas of expertise & to support the ongoing development of training materials & SOPs.
