Overview Of The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Technical Planner to join our Nuclear; Defence and Civil team, supporting some of the UK’s most significant and complex infrastructure programmes. These are long term, high impact projects that offer the opportunity to be part of something meaningful, shaping the future of the UK’s energy and defence landscape.

You will provide leadership to the team of existing planners, by demonstrating consistency to the planning processes and by helping protect the commercial and delivery interests of the business.
Planning sits at the heart of our project success, and in this role, you will have real influence and visibility from day one.
Key responsibilities and duties include:
- Manage a portfolio of schedules ensuring clear communication of outputs to stakeholders at all levels
- Ensure schedules comply with procedures and best practices
- Apply Earned Value (EV) principles, analyse variances, and recommend mitigation strategies
- Collaborate with lead and management roles to ensure project success
- Optimise schedule structures and implement improvements
- Apply change control measures (ideally within the NEC contract model)
- Conduct schedule integrity checks, assess critical paths, and communicate key issues
- Work closely with cost engineers, project managers, and control managers to underpin EACs
- Develop and maintain resource-loaded schedules, applying rules of credit where required
- Use Bentley Synchro, Primavera P6, and BIM models to create and present detailed project plans
- Ensure project plans capture full scope, identify risks and opportunities, and uphold Health & Safety standards

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
