Senior Technical Product Owner

£75,000 + Benefits | Preston | Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite

Our client is a major international organisation operating a complex, technology-led platform environment, supporting customers and operations at significant scale. They are investing heavily in their digital products and are looking for a Senior Technical Product Owner who can sit confidently between senior business stakeholders and highly technical engineering teams.

This is not a traditional Product Owner role focused solely on ceremonies and backlog management. The successful person will be the technical bridge between Product, Engineering, Architecture and the wider business — taking complex requirements and turning them into clear, technically viable outcomes.

The Role

You’ll take ownership of requirements and delivery across complex enterprise products, working closely with engineers and architects while engaging stakeholders right through to MD and senior leadership level.

You will:

  • Bridge business and technology – understand complex business requirements and translate them into detailed epics, features, user stories and acceptance criteria that engineering teams can confidently build against.
  • Own technical delivery – manage and prioritise the backlog, lead refinement and workshops, understand dependencies and challenge technical solutions alongside Engineering and Architecture.
  • Lead senior stakeholders – confidently facilitate difficult conversations, challenge assumptions and priorities, bring structure to ambiguity and drive groups towards clear decisions and outcomes.
  • Work closely with Software Engineers, Architects, QA and Product leadership throughout the SDLC.
  • Translate Product Requirements Documents and strategic objectives into implementation-ready engineering requirements.
  • Understand the implications of APIs, integrations, data flows, architecture and system dependencies without needing to be a software engineer.
  • Take ownership rather than simply documenting what others have decided.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For

We’re particularly interested in people who have operated as a Senior Technical Product Owner, Technical Business Analyst or technically focused Product Owner within complex enterprise software environments.

You’ll need strong evidence of:

  • Technical Product Ownership – you can hold credible conversations with engineers and architects and understand how modern software products are designed, integrated and delivered.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management – you're comfortable challenging senior leaders, controlling workshops and influencing people with competing priorities.
  • Requirements & backlog ownership – strong experience taking high-level requirements through discovery and refinement into clear, actionable engineering work.
  • Enterprise-scale delivery – experience working across complex products involving multiple teams, systems, integrations and dependencies.
  • A strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, Agile delivery and modern engineering practices.

The person we're really looking for

Technical capability gets you into the conversation, but seniority and communication will differentiate you.

We need someone who can walk into a room of senior stakeholders, ask the difficult questions, challenge an MD when necessary, cut through competing opinions and leave everyone clear on what is being delivered, why, and what happens next.

Equally, you need to be able to walk straight into an engineering conversation and earn credibility.

Technical enough for Engineering. Commercial enough for the business. Senior enough to challenge both.
