Senior Technical Programme Manager – Retail / Digital & Technology (Contract)
Location: London – Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite
Contract: 3-6 months rolling
IR35: Inside IR35
Rate: £750 - £800 PD
Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Technical Programme Manager to join a leading UK retailer within its Digital & Technology function. The successful candidate will take ownership of complex technology programmes and product delivery initiatives across a business-critical retail environment, working closely with Product, Engineering, and third-party suppliers. This is a hands-on delivery role requiring strong technical understanding, excellent stakeholder management, and the ability to drive progress across multiple engineering teams, managing dependencies, risks, and delivery outcomes.
Role and Responsibilities
- Lead complex, cross-functional technology programmes within a product-led environment.
- Work closely with Product Managers, Engineering teams, and senior stakeholders to define delivery roadmaps, priorities, and objectives.
- Drive end-to-end technical programme delivery, ensuring milestones, dependencies, and risks are effectively managed.
- Coordinate delivery across multiple technology teams, business functions, and third-party suppliers.
- Oversee technical development, release planning, and deployment strategies.
- Establish clear programme governance, reporting, and delivery metrics using Jira and Monday.com.
- Identify and remove delivery blockers, proactively managing risks and escalating issues where required.
- Manage technology budgets, supplier relationships, and commercial commitments.
- Drive continuous improvement across Agile delivery practices, quality assurance, and operational performance.

Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a Senior Technical Programme Manager delivering complex technology programmes within large organisations.
- Strong technical understanding of software engineering, product development, and technology delivery.
- Extensive experience working within Agile, product-led engineering environments.
- Excellent knowledge of Jira and Monday.com for programme planning, tracking, and reporting.
- Strong experience managing cross-functional dependencies, technical risks, and release management.
- Experience working with third-party technology suppliers and managing commercial relationships.
- Solid understanding of service management, operational delivery, and technology performance metrics.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership and technical teams.
- Retail, eCommerce, supply chain, or FMCG experience would be advantageous.
