Senior Technical Project Manager - Payments
12-Month Contract | Outside IR35 | September Start
Hybrid - Central London, 3 days per week
We are supporting a specialist consultancy delivering a significant transformation programme for a major organisation within the payments sector. We are looking for an experienced Senior Technical Project Manager to take ownership of a key workstream within a large-scale technology transformation. This is a senior, hands-on delivery role requiring somebody with a strong combination of payments knowledge, technical programme delivery and senior stakeholder management.
The Role
Working within a complex Agile environment, you will lead a significant technology workstream and coordinate delivery across multiple technical teams and subject matter experts. Responsibilities will include:
- Own end-to-end delivery of a complex technology workstream
- Develop and manage the integrated project plan, milestones and critical path
- Coordinate multiple technical teams and SMEs across the programme
- Work closely with Architecture, Engineering, Security, Operations and Product
- Manage complex technical and cross-programme dependencies
- Own risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies
- Establish strong governance and delivery controls
- Drive decisions, actions and resolution of blockers
- Provide clear, concise reporting to senior stakeholders
- Present regularly into senior governance and SteerCo forums
- Support implementation, transition and operational readiness
- Maintain pace and accountability across an Agile delivery environment

What We're Looking For
This requires a genuinely Senior Technical Project Manager who has operated within complex payments environments. You should demonstrate:
- Extensive Technical Project Management experience
- Strong payments industry experience
- Delivery of large-scale, business-critical technology transformation
- Experience managing complex technical and architectural dependencies
- Strong understanding of payments technology and the wider payments lifecycle
- Experience working across Engineering, Architecture, Security and Operations
- Strong Agile delivery experience
- Excellent senior stakeholder management
- Significant SteerCo / executive-level exposure
- Strong governance, planning, RAID and dependency management
- Ability to bring together highly specialised technical SMEs and maintain delivery momentum
- Experience operating within highly regulated and resilient environments
- Ability to translate complex technical issues into clear senior-level communication and decisions

We don't need the Project Manager to be the architect or engineer. However, you must have sufficient technical depth and payments experience to understand the environment, ask the right questions, challenge effectively and manage highly experienced technical teams.
Contract Details
- Duration: 12 months initially
- Start: 14th September 2026
- IR35: Outside IR35
- Location: Central London - 3 days per week
