Job Description
Senior Technical Support Officer - Applications Delivery Team
The Senior Technical Support role sits within our Applications Delivery team – a specialist group of technical professionals dedicated to delivering reliable, secure, and highly available IT services that directly support policing operations.
This is a varied and hands-on role where you’ll provide technical support across a range of business-critical systems. You’ll balance strong attention to detail with the ability to understand and contribute to the wider strategic direction of complex application landscapes.
Based at Police Headquarters, Portishead, this is a hybrid role requiring attendance in the office 1-2 days per week, with occasional travel to other police sites. Access to fleet vehicles will be available for business travel. A full UK driving licence is essential.
Key Responsibilities
You will deliver end-to-end technical support across multiple services, including:
- Provisioning, development, and solution design
- Installation and configuration of systems and applications
- Proactive service monitoring, performance assessment, and issue prevention
- Fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and resolution
- System upgrades and patch management
- Working as part of project teams to support the design and implementation of new solutions
- Building strong relationships with stakeholders to enable effective collaboration and service delivery
- Ensuring systems operate to high professional standards, with a focus on stability, availability, performance, and security

Skills & Experience
We’re Looking For Someone Who Brings
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience within an IT environment
- Strong technical understanding beyond end-user level, with the confidence to work across complex systems
- Experience with relevant technologies, such as:
- Cloud platforms
- Windows Server environments
- End-user device management
- Windows administration tools
- Complex line-of-business applications
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and build effective working relationships
- A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement
- A structured and methodical approach to managing workloads
You’ll be customer-focused and passionate about delivering a high-quality service, bringing both technical expertise and a commitment to best practice.
Additional Requirements
- Occasional travel across the force area will be required, so a full UK driving licence is essential
- Following successful completion of probation, there may be an on-call requirement (with additional allowances)
- To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.
