Senior Technical Valve Advisor & Engineer

Location: Nationwide (UK)

HVL Solutions is a leading specialist in valve maintenance, asset management, and emergency engineering services for the UK water and gas industries. We provide innovative in-situ repair solutions that help our customers reduce costs, minimise disruption, and extend the life of critical infrastructure.

Due to continued expansion, we are looking to recruit a highly experienced Senior Technical Valve Advisor & Engineer to support projects across the UK.

The Role

This is a senior technical position that combines hands-on engineering with customer support, technical advice, and project leadership. You will be responsible for diagnosing complex valve issues, developing repair strategies, and leading specialist engineering teams on planned and emergency works.

The role requires extensive travel throughout the UK and occasional overnight stays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose faults on a wide range of valves and associated assets.
  • Provide technical advice to customers and internal engineering teams.
  • Lead specialist valve repair and overhaul operations.
  • Carry out in-situ valve maintenance and refurbishment.
  • Supervise emergency response works and planned maintenance projects.
  • Produce technical reports and recommend suitable repair solutions.
  • Support the development of new repair methods and engineering innovations.
  • Assist with customer presentations, technical meetings, and site surveys.
  • Mentor and train engineers and apprentices.
  • Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Liaise with clients, project managers, and planners to deliver projects safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain the highest standards of workmanship and professionalism.

Experience Required

Applicants should have significant experience working on water or gas infrastructure and demonstrate expert knowledge of valve systems.

Experience should include:

  • Gate valves
  • Butterfly valves
  • Air valves
  • Pressure reducing valves (PRVs)
  • Penstocks
  • Sluice valves
  • Valve actuators and gearboxes
  • Valve inspections and condition assessments
  • Valve overhauls
  • Under-pressure valve repacking
  • Emergency valve repairs
  • Asset maintenance
  • Fault finding and diagnostics
  • Reading engineering drawings
  • Producing technical reports

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in valve engineering.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong communication and customer-facing ability.
  • Ability to lead engineering teams under pressure.
  • High level of mechanical aptitude.
  • Willingness to travel nationwide and work occasional nights and weekends.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to make sound engineering decisions in live operational environments.

  • EUSR Water Hygiene.
  • National Water Hygiene Card.
  • CSCS.
  • NRSWA.
  • Confined Space (Medium/High Risk).
  • First Aid.
  • Lifting & Slinging.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH.
  • Any water industry or gas industry qualifications.
