Senior Technician - Biochemistry and Food Chemistry
To support the delivery of high-quality, practice-based learning, research and innovation, we’re looking for a Senior Technician to provide specialist technical expertise and hands-on support in the disciplines of biochemistry and food chemistry. As part of a technical support team, you’ll contribute to enabling students and staff to carry out safe, effective, and innovative practical work using specialist equipment and software in the school’s learning and teaching laboratories.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for biochemistry and food chemistry themed practical classes, including the preparation of solutions and materials.
- Liaise with academic leads on the practical class scheduling and content and support validation and preparatory tests on methods as and when required.
- Introduce, explain, and provide ongoing advice and support training in the use of laboratory equipment to members of staff, students, and visitors.
- Contribute to the routine statutory monthly checks of equipment in the teaching laboratories.
What You’ll Bring
- Working knowledge of relevant laboratory health and safety requirements.
- Understanding in the operation and maintenance of general laboratory equipment.
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and organise experimental protocols and resources.
- Work as part of a team showing a flexible approach to delivering team results.

Additionally, You’ll Bring
- An HND or degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate discipline.
- Recognised and relevant practical laboratory experience.
- Proficient in the use of computers including word processing, scientific graphs, and spreadsheets.
- Excellent record-keeping skills, including the ability to maintain accurate laboratory notes and inventories.
- A clear commitment and interest in technical work and a desire to share knowledge and motivate students.
