Position Title: Senior Technician (Biosciences)
Department/College: Technical Services
Location: Brunel University of London, Uxbridge Campus
Salary: Grade 6 from: £34,588 to £39,144 inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £41,292 per annum, inclusive of London Weighting, through sustained exceptional contribution (pro-rata if part-time).
Hours: Full-time

The College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (CHMLS) is seeking a highly skilled, organised and committed Senior Technician to support teaching and research within the Department of Biosciences.
Working collaboratively within the Biosciences technical team, you will support the safe, effective and efficient operation of teaching and research laboratories. You will prepare and support undergraduate and postgraduate practical classes, including stock solutions, cell lines, biological samples, equipment and consumables; provide technical guidance and demonstrations to students and staff; support research activities; manage laboratory stock and procurement; arrange equipment servicing and maintenance; apply appropriate waste-disposal procedures; and write or update Standard Operating Procedures. You will assist the Principal Technical Manager (Biosciences) in delivering technical services, lead these activities when required, and take responsibility for aspects of health and safety across departmental laboratories, support facilities and wider Technical Services activities.

You will hold a degree or relevant qualification in biological sciences, or have substantial equivalent experience, ideally supported by at least two years’ laboratory-based teaching experience in higher education. You will understand scientific principles and laboratory practice, health and safety legislation, risk assessment, and financial and procurement processes. You will communicate technical information effectively, plan and prioritise varied workloads, work collaboratively and respond flexibly to changing service needs. Science Council registration at RSciTech level or above, or achievement within 12 months, is required, alongside First Aid at Work and Portable Appliance Testing qualifications, or willingness to undertake training.
