About the Role
Background – The Senior Technician plays a key role in supporting innovative teaching and learning across Physiotherapy programmes within the School of Health and Medical Sciences. The postholder leads the setup, maintenance and operation of clinical skills, rehabilitation and simulated practice environments, ensuring teaching spaces are safe, well-equipped and fully operational. Working closely with academic staff and students, they provide expert technical support for practical teaching, movement analysis activities and simulation-based learning, helping to deliver an outstanding student experience through high-quality technical services.

Responsibilities – Lead the day-to-day operation of physiotherapy teaching laboratories, rehabilitation facilities and simulated clinical environments. Prepare, maintain and troubleshoot specialist equipment used for physical assessment, therapeutic interventions, exercise rehabilitation and practical teaching activities. Provide technical guidance and support to students and academic staff, ensuring laboratories and clinical teaching spaces are configured effectively for learning. Supervise technicians, manage stock and equipment maintenance programmes, and contribute to service improvements while ensuring compliance with health, safety and regulatory requirements.
Person Specification – The successful candidate will have excellent technical and organisational skills, with experience supporting rehabilitation equipment, teaching laboratories, simulation facilities or specialist healthcare technologies. They will be an effective communicator who can build positive relationships with students, staff and stakeholders while delivering a high standard of customer service. The ability to troubleshoot technical problems, work independently, manage competing priorities and support a technical team is essential. Experience within physiotherapy, rehabilitation, healthcare education or higher education would be advantageous.
