Role Overview
Background - The Senior Technician plays a key role in supporting innovative teaching and learning across Nursing and Midwifery programmes within the School of Health and Medical Sciences. Responsible for the setup, maintenance, and operation of clinical skills, simulation, and laboratory equipment, the postholder ensures teaching spaces are safe, well-prepared, and fully functional. Working closely with academic staff, students, and technical colleagues, they provide expert technical support, contribute to simulation activities, supervise technicians, and help deliver an outstanding student experience through high-quality technical services.

Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operation of clinical skills, simulation, and high-fidelity simulation facilities, ensuring equipment, teaching spaces, and resources are prepared, maintained, and operated safely.
- Provide technical support and guidance to students and academic staff.
- Configure and support high-fidelity simulation scenarios.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Supervise and support technicians.
- Manage stock and maintenance records.
- Contribute to service improvements.
- Work collaboratively across teams to deliver high-quality practical and simulation-based learning experiences while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Person Specification
- Excellent technical and organisational skills.
- Experience supporting simulation, high-fidelity simulation, or specialist equipment in a practical learning environment.
- Effective communicator who can build positive relationships with students, staff, and stakeholders while delivering a high standard of customer service.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical problems, work independently, manage competing priorities, and lead a small team.
- Experience within Nursing, Midwifery, clinical skills, simulation, or higher education settings would be advantageous.
