Role Overview

This role provides a great development opportunity for someone from a civil/structural engineering background with a strong appreciation and passion for Temporary Works & Safety. This role will suit an engineer who graduated within the last few years and has since built up credible industry experience with great exposure to temporary works. This role will require exceptional coaching, mentoring, and influencing abilities, coordinating suitable temporary works solutions effectively will determine success in this role.

This is a newly created role within a growing team looking to build on in-house capability. Travel will generally consist of 4 days on-site alongside 1 day in office, flexibility across UK projects/South of England is essential. You will have a natural and motivational drive for building relationships, educating and changing existing thinking.

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Temporary Works Coordinator certifications
  • Current or previous certification as a Temporary Works Supervisor
  • CITB SMSTS certification and a valid CSCS card or equivalent
  • NVQ Level 6 diploma (or equivalent) in Construction Management, Engineering, Civils, or a related discipline
  • Degree-level qualification in Engineering, Civils, or Structural Engineering
  • Strong knowledge of BS 5975: Part 1 & 2:2024

What You Will Be Doing

No two days will look the same. You’ll combine time on site with document review, technical investigation, and engagement with project teams, designers, and subcontractors to ensure Temporary Works are being planned, designed, managed, and delivered safely and in compliance with required standards and procedures.

You’ll work closely with the operational team, as well as engaging with subcontractors directly, to follow up on findings, clarify information, or address areas requiring further attention. The role sits at a vital intersection between safety and design, requiring you to understand both the technical requirements of Temporary Works and the importance of robust compliance.

Overall, the role is about maintaining high standards. You’ll help ensure that Temporary Works are properly planned, designed, checked, inspected, and managed throughout their life cycle, identifying potential issues early, and supporting project teams in maintaining compliance with the relevant procedures and British Standards.

How You Will Succeed in This Role

We’re looking for an engineer with a strong civil or structural engineering background and practical experience alongside practical experience in the management of Temporary Works. The ideal candidate will have around 5+ years of experience in a Temporary Works Lead or similar role.

You should also have a strong understanding of British Standards and relevant Temporary Works codes of practice, with a clear appreciation of the importance of compliance throughout the Temporary Works lifecycle.

Alongside technical capability, communication and stakeholder management are essential. You’ll need to be comfortable asking questions, following up on issues, and communicating requirements both clearly and constructively.
