Location – Newcastle, Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Office Attendance – Our hybrid working model gives you the best of both worlds - flexibility to work from home and valuable face-to-face time with colleagues. This role typically requires up to an average of 1 day per week onsite.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the team at a pivotal time as we continue to invest in our technology estate and engineering capabilities. As a Senior Test Engineer, you'll help drive quality across key business and customer-facing platforms, ensuring solutions are reliable, scalable and fit for purpose. Bringing expertise in both functional and performance testing, you'll work on strategic technology initiatives, collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation, and play a key role in delivering high-quality solutions that support our colleagues, customers and business outcomes.

What you’ll be doing

  • Deliver robust, high-quality software by designing and executing effective functional and performance testing across complex technology solutions.
  • Improve product reliability and customer experience by identifying defects, performance bottlenecks and quality risks before they reach production.
  • Increase test efficiency and coverage through the development and enhancement of automated testing frameworks and tooling.
  • Ensure systems perform at scale by designing and executing performance, load and resilience testing activities.
  • Support successful delivery of business-critical initiatives by collaborating closely with engineers, product teams, stakeholders and multiple third-party suppliers, ensuring quality outcomes across complex delivery landscapes.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering quality by applying modern testing techniques, sharing technical expertise and championing best practices within delivery teams.

What we’re looking for (minimum criteria)

  • Proven experience in software testing and quality engineering, with a strong track record of delivering high-quality solutions across complex technology environments.
  • Strong automation testing skills, including experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks within modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience of Performance testing, including load, resilience and scalability testing using industry-standard tools and practices.
  • Experience of delivering testing activities using both Agile delivery methodologies and structured project approaches across complex, time-bound initiatives, balancing quality, risk and delivery commitments.

And if you have any of these, even better

  • Experience working within the Financial Services sector, with preferred understanding of the end-to-end insurance lifecycle including quote, policy administration, claims, underwriting or customer servicing platforms, and of delivering quality engineering within regulated environments.
  • Hands-on experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter or LoadRunner across complex enterprise applications.
  • Knowledge of API, integration and microservices testing within distributed systems architectures.
  • Experience of line management within a technology or engineering function, developing individual and team capability through coaching, mentoring and performance management, while maintaining a strong focus on delivery and quality outcomes.
