About Motorway
Motorway is the UK's largest online car-selling platform. We connect private sellers directly with over 8,000 dealers nationwide. Our online platform helps sellers achieve great prices for their cars while giving dealers fast, reliable access to the stock they want for their dealerships. Founded in 2017, our award-winning, technology-led approach has redefined the experience of selling a car. Motorway is backed by some of the world’s leading technology investors, having raised £143 million in Series C funding.
This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing scale-up at a crucial phase of growth and help change an industry for the better.
About the Role
We're looking for a Total Rewards Partner to own compensation, equity, and commission across the business - reporting directly to the CPO and working closely with senior leadership and Finance.
This is a broad, hands-on remit with real influence. You'll bring structure to how we pay and reward our people, use AI tooling as a core part of how you work, and help shape a rewards function that scales with us.
What you’ll do
Compensation:
- Own market pricing and pay benchmarking - including external surveys, job matching, and evaluating competitive pay levels.
- Take our newly completed job architecture live: build out salary bands to best-practice standard, simplify where possible, and use AI tooling to drive efficiency in how the structure is built and maintained.
- Run the annual merit cycle and gender pay gap reporting, partnering with the CPO, People Partners, and Finance.
- Partner with the People Operations Lead to keep Humaans (our HRIS) accurate, build dashboards that turn compensation data into clear decisions, and support Talent Acquisition and People Partners on benchmarking and offers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Equity:
- Bring hands-on experience with employee equity plans - EMI, unapproved options, or equivalent.
- Understand cap table dynamics, run equity and option pool analysis, and monitor equity burn.
- Partner with the CPO, senior leadership, and People Partners to develop equity plans (grant sizing, vesting, segmentation) and deliver awards from communication planning through to administration and execution.
Commission:
- Support the current full audit and review of our commission plans, working with business leaders on ongoing review processes.
- Help ensure commission plans are built for long-term success - structured to drive the right behaviours sustainably, not just short-term outcomes.
- Partner with the business, People Partners, and Finance on commission plan analysis, documentation, policy, and communication materials.
