Job Title: Senior Planner

Location: Sturminster Newton, Dorset

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading multi-disciplinary professional services firm in their search for an experienced Senior Planner to join their team in Sturminster Newton, Dorset.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Planner looking for a genuinely varied, client-facing and fee-earning role, working across a broad range of Residential, Agricultural, and Commercial projects throughout the Wessex region.

You'll work closely with a number of professional teams within the business, getting involved from the initial concept and feasibility stage right through to planning conditions and project completion.

The Role

As a Senior Planner, you will be responsible for managing your own portfolio of planning projects while acting as a key point of contact for clients. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing initial feasibility advice, preparing Planning Appraisals and developing planning strategies for clients
  • Managing Pre-Application Enquiries and providing clear planning advice
  • Preparing Planning Statements, Design and Access Statements, and supporting documentation
  • Preparing, submitting, and managing a wide range of planning applications across Residential, Commercial, and Agricultural projects
  • Dealing with Listed Building Consent applications
  • Acting as Project Lead, coordinating external consultants, and working closely with internal design, rural, commercial, and valuation teams
  • Advising clients on planning conditions, Section 106 agreements, CIL, and other planning obligations
  • Supporting the promotion of development sites through the planning and adoption process
  • Preparing, submitting, and managing planning appeals
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and other professional stakeholders

The Candidate

We're looking for an experienced planning professional who is confident managing projects from initial feasibility through to determination and beyond.

You'll Ideally Have

  • Previous experience within a planning consultancy, professional services, or similar environment
  • Strong experience across Residential, Commercial, and/or Agricultural planning
  • Excellent knowledge of the UK planning system
  • Experience preparing and managing planning applications and appeals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The confidence to deal directly with clients and professional stakeholders
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
  • MRTPI or working towards chartership would be advantageous
