The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Town Planner to join an established and growing independent planning, design and environmental consultancy in Birmingham. The business works across a diverse range of projects throughout the UK, with a strong focus on strategic land, residential development, new communities, regeneration, commercial development and mixed-use schemes.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Planner looking to take the next step in their career, with the chance to work on interesting projects, take ownership of client relationships and progress towards Associate level and beyond.

The Role

As a Senior Town Planner, you will be involved in managing a varied portfolio of planning projects and providing commercially focused planning advice to clients.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Managing planning applications from inception through to determination.
  • Providing planning advice to private-sector clients and landowners.
  • Working on strategic land, residential and mixed-use development projects.
  • Preparing planning appraisals, reports and supporting documentation.
  • Developing planning strategies for complex development proposals.
  • Liaising with local planning authorities, stakeholders and statutory consultees.
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Attending client meetings and taking responsibility for key client relationships.
  • Supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team.
  • Contributing to business development and identifying new opportunities.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience within a planning consultancy or private-sector environment.
  • A relevant degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • MRTPI or be working towards chartership.
  • Strong knowledge of the UK planning system.
  • Experience managing planning projects and dealing directly with clients.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • A commercially minded approach.
  • The confidence to work independently while contributing to a wider team.
