We are Hiring: Senior Traffic Engineer – Highways Design & Engineering

Location: London Borough of Hackney

Contract: Temporary / Contract

Rate: £42.00 per hour PAYE

Hours: Full-Time


Role Overview

Hackney Council is seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer / Highways Engineer to design and deliver highways, traffic management, active travel, road safety and public realm schemes across the borough.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver highway, traffic management, cycling and road safety schemes.
  • Lead projects from concept and design through to consultation and implementation.
  • Produce and review AutoCAD engineering drawings, technical notes and design documentation.
  • Undertake site surveys and develop detailed highway designs.
  • Prepare TRO/TMO, Section 14, Section 90 and Section 23 documentation.
  • Ensure designs comply with LCDS/LTN 1/20, DMRB, TSRGD and relevant legislation.
  • Manage contractors, consultants and site implementation.
  • Prepare construction drawings, traffic management plans, CDM documentation and Bills of Quantities.
  • Lead public consultation and engage with residents, elected members and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical advice and deputise for the Principal Engineer when required.

Requirements

  • Significant UK experience in highways, traffic or civil engineering.
  • Strong practical AutoCAD design experience.
  • Proven experience delivering highway/active travel and road safety schemes.
  • Strong knowledge of LCDS/LTN 1/20, DMRB, TSRGD and Traffic Management Act.
  • Experience with TROs/TMOs and statutory highway processes.
  • Experience working with contractors, consultants and external stakeholders.
  • Degree/equivalent in Civil, Highway or Traffic Engineering.
  • Relevant professional membership or eligibility.

Ideal Candidate

A Senior Highways/Traffic Engineer with strong AutoCAD, active travel, road safety and urban highway design experience, ideally gained within a UK local authority or highways consultancy.
