Experience Required…
Essential:
- HNC/HND, degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
- Practical experience in traffic engineering, traffic signals, ITS, network management or a closely related field
- Good understanding of traffic signal operation and traffic engineering principles
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, traffic data and technical specifications
- Ability to investigate technical problems and develop practical engineering solutions
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports and communicate technical matters to non-technical audiences
- Ability to manage competing workloads and deliver work within agreed timescales and budgets
- Ability to work effectively with contractors, consultants, developers, public bodies and other stakeholders
- Good IT skills and experience of relevant engineering or asset management software

Desirable:
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution such as CIHT, ICE or IET
- Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration
- Experience of traffic signal design, commissioning and validation
- Experience of MOVA, SCOOT, UTC or similar traffic control systems
- Experience of traffic modelling software such as LinSig, TRANSYT, Junctions or equivalent
- Knowledge of traffic signal maintenance contracts and asset management
- Experience of local authority roads or transportation services
- Knowledge of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and associated Scottish roads legislation and guidance
- Understanding of active travel design, public transport priority and road safety principles
- Experience of procurement, contract administration and financial management
