Overview

The Transmission Line Engineer serves as the technical subject matter expert (SME) responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and directing high-voltage transmission line engineering projects that support renewable energy, battery storage, data center interconnections, and grid expansion initiatives. Unlike a traditional design role, this position functions as the owner's engineer, providing technical oversight of external engineering consultants and ensuring transmission line designs meet project requirements, utility standards, constructability expectations, and long-term operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and engineering oversight for transmission line projects from development through construction.
  • Review and challenge engineering consultant designs, calculations, assumptions, and technical recommendations.
  • Evaluate routing, conductor selection, structure design, foundation design, line ratings, and constructability considerations.
  • Support transmission projects ranging from 230kV to 765kV.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, utilities, permitting teams, geotechnical consultants, and construction teams.
  • Participate in design reviews, site visits, page-turn reviews, and technical workshops.
  • Identify technical risks and provide practical engineering solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable utility standards, specifications, and industry best practices.
  • Support competitive transmission opportunities and major interconnection projects.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
