Senior Transport Planner
Location: Newcastle
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Type: Full-time, Permanent
The Opportunity
We are currently working with a growing and established transport planning consultancy in Newcastle that is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Transport Planner to join their team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Transport Planner who has developed strong experience within the development planning sector and is now looking to take the next step in their career.
You will work on a varied portfolio of projects across residential, commercial, retail, education, and mixed-use developments, providing transport planning advice from initial feasibility through to planning and delivery.
The Role
As a Senior Transport Planner, you will take responsibility for delivering projects and providing high-quality technical advice to clients, while also supporting the development of more junior members of the team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the preparation of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans.
- Providing transport planning and highways advice in support of development proposals.
- Undertaking traffic generation, distribution, and impact assessments.
- Carrying out junction capacity assessments using appropriate modelling software.
- Developing transport strategies for residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
- Liaising with clients, developers, local authorities, and other professional consultants.
- Attending and contributing to client and project meetings.
- Managing projects, programs, and budgets to ensure successful delivery.
- Preparing technical reports and supporting planning applications.
- Providing technical input into planning negotiations and Section 106 discussions.
- Reviewing and mentoring the work of junior members of the team.
- Supporting business development and identifying opportunities to grow client relationships.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider business.

About You
We are looking for an experienced Senior Transport Planner with a strong background in development planning and consultancy.
You will ideally have:
- Several years' experience within transport planning consultancy.
- Strong experience delivering development planning projects.
- A good understanding of the UK planning system and the transport planning process.
- Experience preparing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans.
- Strong knowledge of traffic generation, trip distribution, and junction capacity assessment.
- Experience using software such as Junctions, LinSig, and TRICS.
- Excellent report-writing and technical communication skills.
- The confidence to liaise directly with clients, developers, and local authorities.
- Experience managing projects and taking responsibility for delivering work to deadlines and budgets.
- An interest in developing junior members of the team.
- A commercially aware and proactive approach to your work.
- Chartered or working towards CIHT or another relevant professional qualification would be advantageous.
