Senior Transport Planner - Development Planning
Manchester
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Transport Planner to join our Development Planning team.
This is an opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of development-led transport projects, providing strategic and technical transport advice from early-stage feasibility and pre-application through to planning submission and determination.
You will work closely with clients, local authorities, architects, planners, and other technical consultants, taking responsibility for your own projects while supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead transport planning projects associated with residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
- Prepare and review Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans.
- Provide transport and highways advice throughout the planning process.
- Undertake and review trip generation, distribution, and junction capacity assessments.
- Develop sustainable transport, accessibility, and site access strategies.
- Liaise with Local Planning and Highway Authorities, clients, and other project stakeholders.
- Attend client, design team, and authority meetings.
- Manage project programmes, budgets, and technical deliverables.
- Provide technical input into planning applications, appeals, and pre-application submissions.
- Review development layouts and provide advice on highway access, parking, servicing, and sustainable transport provision.
- Coordinate transport inputs with wider planning, engineering, and environmental disciplines.
- Support business development through fee proposals, client relationships, and new opportunities.
- Mentor and provide technical support to junior transport planners.

About You
We are looking for someone with:
- Proven experience in development planning / transport consultancy.
- Strong knowledge of the UK planning and development process.
- Experience preparing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans.
- Good understanding of sustainable transport and highway access principles.
- Experience working with Local Highway Authorities and Planning Authorities.
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
- Excellent communication and client-facing abilities.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- A commercially aware and proactive approach.

Desirable Experience
- Experience with TRICS, LinSig, Junctions 10 or similar software.
- Experience with major residential or strategic development schemes.
- Knowledge of S106 and S278 processes.
- Experience supporting planning appeals or public inquiries.
- Chartered or working towards chartership with CIHT, ICE, or a relevant professional body.
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff.
