Senior Transport Planner - Operations & Systems

At Williams Haulage we’ve created a new role for an experienced Senior Transport Planner, to join our busy transport planning team in Sandycroft.

This is a key operational role for an experienced transport planner who can support the day-to-day running of our busy HGV fleet while helping improve planning systems, reporting and processes through automation. We're looking for someone with strong transport experience and a practical, positive approach to technology and continuous improvement.

The Role

As the Senior Transport Planner, you’ll work closely with our Transport Planning Manager and support colleagues within the small planning team, sharing responsibility for the daily operation while helping us continue to develop the systems and processes that support it.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and coordinating daily HGV movements across our UK operation
  • Allocating vehicles, trailers and drivers to maximise utilisation and minimise empty mileage
  • Identifying backload and consolidation opportunities
  • Monitoring live operations and responding to changing customer and operational requirements
  • Working closely with drivers, customers, subcontractors and colleagues
  • Ensuring compliance with Drivers' Hours, Working Time and transport legislation
  • Making commercially informed decisions that balance service, efficiency and profitability
  • Supporting planning administration and reporting
  • Helping to develop our transport systems, reporting and automation
  • Identifying opportunities to improve workflows, information visibility and operational efficiency
  • Contributing ideas on how technology, data and AI can further support the transport operation

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
