Senior Transport Planner – Development Planning
Location: West London
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Role: Permanent

The Opportunity
We are working with an established and growing transport planning consultancy in West London that is looking to appoint a Senior Transport Planner to join its Development Planning team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transport planner looking to take the next step in their career, working on a varied portfolio of development-led projects across London and the wider South East.
The successful candidate will have a solid technical background in development planning, strong communication skills and the confidence to take ownership of projects while working closely with clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary project teams.
The Role
As a Senior Transport Planner, you will be responsible for delivering a range of transport planning commissions, with particular emphasis on development planning and supporting planning applications.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and delivering transport planning projects from inception through to completion.
- Preparing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans.
- Assessing the transport implications of residential, commercial, retail, industrial and mixed-use developments.
- Providing transport and highways advice to developers, landowners and other private-sector clients.
- Liaising with Local Planning Authorities, Transport for London and other relevant stakeholders.
- Supporting planning applications and negotiations with highway and transport officers.
- Providing technical input into development proposals and masterplans.
- Undertaking trip generation, distribution and assignment assessments.
- Reviewing parking, access, servicing, sustainable transport and travel planning requirements.
- Preparing technical reports, assessments and supporting documentation.
- Attending client, design team and stakeholder meetings.
- Managing project programmes, budgets and deliverables.
- Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team.
- Assisting with fee proposals, tenders and business development activities.

About You
We are looking for a Senior Transport Planner with strong experience in development planning who is comfortable taking responsibility for projects and dealing directly with clients and stakeholders.
You will ideally have:
- A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or a related discipline.
- Several years' experience within transport planning, ideally gained within a consultancy environment.
- Strong experience in UK development planning.
- Experience preparing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans.
- Good knowledge of the London planning and transport environment.
- Experience liaising with Local Planning Authorities, TfL and other stakeholders.
- A good understanding of transport policy, planning requirements and development-related highways matters.
- Strong report-writing and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines.
- Experience supporting or mentoring junior team members.
- A commercially aware and client-focused approach.
- Experience with industry-standard transport modelling, junction analysis or tools such as Junctions 9, LinSig, TRICS and AutoCAD would be advantageous, depending on your wider experience.
- Chartered or working towards CIHT or another relevant professional qualification would also be beneficial.
