Job Title: Senior UAS / BVLOS Safety & Regulatory Adviser
Company: OB Collective
About Us: OB Collective is a UK technology business working on independent verification and evidence for information moving between organisations and systems. We work primarily in regulated and public-sector environments, combining software engineering, systems assurance, and operational evidence to help organisations understand the state of information before it is relied upon.
Role Overview: We’re looking for a Senior UAS / BVLOS Safety & Regulatory Adviser for an initial six-month software-intensive technical programme.
The role provides specialist operational, safety, and regulatory expertise around future BVLOS operations. You will work alongside systems engineering, software engineering, and test and evaluation specialists to ensure that the technical work is grounded in credible UAS operating practice and that the evidence being evaluated relates to real operational decisions, hazards, and regulatory requirements.
This is not a UTM product-development or software-architecture role. We need someone who understands how BVLOS operating concepts are authorised, assessed, and operated in practice, and who can help determine when an information or evidence condition has genuine operational or safety significance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialist advice on BVLOS operational, safety, and regulatory practice.
- Help define representative BVLOS operating concepts, actors, responsibilities, and decision points.
- Advise on the relationship between operational information, safety decisions, and regulatory requirements.
- Support interpretation and application of UK SORA/SORA principles to relevant use cases.
- Help identify which information conditions have genuine operational or safety significance.
- Advise on contingency, abnormal, and degraded-state handling.
- Review representative failure scenarios to ensure they are operationally credible.
- Support definition of operational assumptions, constraints, and safety-relevant boundaries.
- Advise on airspace integration and interfaces between UAS operators, air navigation services, and digital airspace/UTM services.
- Contribute to regulatory, standards, and safety-requirement mapping.
- Review proposed evaluation cases and findings for operational credibility.
- Help distinguish between an evidenced information state and the operational action that an accountable operator or system may subsequently take.
- Challenge assumptions that do not reflect real UAS operating practice.
- Support the derivation of technology-neutral requirements and findings from the programme evidence.
- Contribute to workshops and reviews with technical, operational, and regulatory stakeholders.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
