Development Underwriter

(Prestigious Global Insurer)
JH-3136c
Attractive salary (Neg) plus market-leading bonus and benefits
Remote or Hybrid

We are delighted to be partnering with this world-leading insurance company that is seeking a Development Underwriter.

This is an exciting, newly-created position that has arisen with what is arguably the most exciting insurer in the market right now; growing 20% year on year, and on track to double in size over the next 5 years. This company is well-renowned for providing innovative insurance solutions, and uses its ingenuity to insure risks that others can’t.

As Development Underwriter, you’ll be required to source new business opportunities within the Care Insurance market.

Whilst specific experience within the Care Insurance sector would be welcomed, this is by no means essential, as product training will be provided. However, you must have previous experience of underwriting new business within the commercial insurance market, as a minimum.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You’ll have a strong desire to be highly visible to brokers, encouraging development meetings and telephone contact. As well as leveraging your own relationships within the broker market, you’ll also work closely with the Development Director to secure profitable new relationships. Specific duties will include, but not be limited to, underwriting individual risks, identifying and securing scheme opportunities, attending networking events, and providing input to the Head of Care, reporting on broker activity and new business production.

The Divisional Director cites, “we have so many enquiries to keep our Development Underwriters really busy, and this is resulting in them being handsomely rewarded – both financially and with attractive career development opportunities within our business.”

You’ll benefit from working for a company that has a truly entrepreneurial approach to underwriting, and a genuine desire to write business.

It's essential that you have a successful track record of developing new business in a broker-facing role, although we will consider applications from New Business / Trading Underwriters who are ready to step into a broking-facing role.
